  • OLED display that has richer colors

Lupus Disease - Killing me Softly

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue. This results in symptoms such as inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.

In 2013, when I went home (back to my childhood homeland) with my family (husband and two kids) was my happiest decision to stay closer to my parents for good.

Our life seemed good enough to have a good life. My husband found a good job just a walking distance to our home. I had no job since I prefer to focus taking care of my little kids. I did mostly of household chores, basically washing clothes, cooking, and cleaning (a typical housewife). I love everything I did back then.

After a few months, I just can't imagine to feel something uneasy in my health. I found sleeping so hard, as far as I can remember, there were days passed that I only slept for 1 hour, a times successive sleepless nights. Sleepless made me so stressed that resulted to have swelling and pain in my whole body. I suffered so much pain on my laps. I did not want to eat. My husband took care of me by feeding me food while I laid on my bed. I waited for days hoping to recover everything. Everything was so stressful for me. All I did was to pray and seeking cure for my health.

I went to the doctor, at first they tried to give me medicine for arthritis because of the swelling and as they have concluded according to my answers during their initial interview. It lessen the pain somehow but I knew to myself that the core pain and the uneasy feeling still present. I always felt tired and its like killing me softly. I lose weight totally, I was thin to the bone.

I went back and forth to the doctor and they always change my medicine to try. I felt very frustrated and it made me more stressed, it added up to my pain.

One of our neighbor told us to visit another physician in another city to let examine my health. I was happy at first but, the same thing - tried medicine and so on...

I went back to our place and try to seek cure from the quack doctor. Superstitious, I was frustrated and hopeless so I did everything. The quack doctor helped me in some other ways, but not the cure of my illness.

After a year of going back and forth to different doctors, I felt hopeless and decided to have a last chance (last try) check up to another physician.

That general physician told me to have laboratory check especially my blood for ANA test and referred me to a Lupus specialist immediately.

I undergone the process of healing for Lupus after the result of my ANA. I felt relieved but worried because Lupus Disease is always with me, it can't be healed as many people said. The doctor gave me medicine as my "maintenance medicine" everyday.

My doctor said, Lupus is my partner forever, however there will be a chance that it can be cured as what she had shared about one of her patients.

I am so much in hope to cure this illness until now.
I will share with you some tips and advice from my doctor hope these can help.

Lupus Laboratory Tests

These are the common check ups the doctor would ask you for Lupus Testing. It was a hold-up price actually because each laboratory cost you badly and if the result of the test is blurry then you need to do it again based on my experience.

Blood and urine tests, signs and symptoms, and physical examination findings leads to the diagnosis.

Laboratory tests

Urine and Blood Test

  • Urinalysis. An examination of a sample of your urine may show an increased protein level or red blood cells in the urine, which may occur if lupus has affected your kidneys.
  • ·      A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia.

A complete blood count test measures several components and features of your blood, including:

  • Red blood cells, which carry oxygen
  • Hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells
  • Crematoria, the proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component, or plasma, in your blood
  • Platelets, which help with blood clotting
  • (WBC)White blood cells – fights infection

Abnormal increases or decreases in cell counts as revealed in a complete blood count may indicate that you have an underlying medical condition that calls for further evaluation.

  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. It determines the rate at which red blood cells settle to the bottom of a tube in an hour. A faster than normal rate may indicate a systemic disease, such as lupus. The sedimentation rate isn't specific for any one disease. It may be elevated if you have lupus, another inflammatory condition, cancer or an infection.
  • Kidney and liver assessment. Blood tests can assess how well your kidneys and liver are functioning. Lupus can affect these organs.
  • Antinuclear antibody (ANA) test. Usually the last test to identify Lupus and it is the basis if Lupus is present. A positive test for the presence of these antibodies — produced by your immune system — indicates a stimulated immune system. While most people with lupus have a positive ANA test, most people with a positive ANA do not have lupus. If you test positive for ANA, your doctor may advise more-specific antibody testing.

Further Tests may include Imaging test and Biopsy if the Lupus is dominating the body already

Imaging tests

If your doctor suspects that lupus is affecting your lungs or heart, he or she may suggest this test:

  • Chest X-ray. An image of your chest may reveal abnormal shadows that suggest fluid or inflammation in your lungs.
  • Echo-cardiogram. This test uses sound waves to produce real-time images of your beating heart. It can check for problems with your valves and other portions of your heart.

Biopsy

If kidneys are affected already, there are different ways to cure them. The Biopsy is necessary to test a sample of kidney tissue to determine the best treatment might be for the patient. The sample can be obtained with a needle or through a small incision.

The Common Medicine For Lupus Disease

Here are lists of common medicine for Lupus patients. These medicines were issued by my personal doctor. By the way, this article is based from my experience.

These medicines are the daily intake after the clearing process from the doctor. It’s like a take home forever medicine.

1. HCQS – “Hydroxychloroquine” an antirheumatic medicine used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid – systematic lupus erythematosus.
It could also use treat or prevent malaria- malaria is a disease caused by mosquito bites.

However, the side effect for HCQS as my doctor reminded me of, was it will back down your eyesight. It can cause blurry (or something change in color) eyesight and worst it can cause blindness. It could also weaken the bones

2. Imuran - Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant, a drug that is used to suppress the immune system. It is used for diseases in which modifying the activity of the immune system is important.
Azathioprine is a prodrug (a precursor of a drug) which is converted in the body to its active form called mercaptopurine (Purinethol).

3. Prednisone - COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Deltasone
      GENERIC NAME(S): Prednisone
Prednisone is used to treat conditions such as arthritis, breathing problems, blood disorders, skin diseases, cancer, eye problems and immune system disorders. Prednisone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It decreases your immune system’s response to various diseases to reduce symptoms such as swelling and allergic-type reactions.

These 3 medicines are the basic to intake to control Lupus disease.

Since it has side effects, the doctor gave me some vitamins and supplements to support.

1.     Calvin Plus - is used as a dietary supplement with Vitamin D and minerals.
